A LITTLE BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Born in Nova Scotia, Canada and raised in High Falls,
New York, Jana Baird Paterson moved to Brooklyn in 1986
to pursue a degree in graphic design at Pratt Institute.
In 1990 she received her BFA with honors in communications design.
Throughout her school years she worked at design studios starting with Ross Culbert Holland & Lavery, where she worked closely with her mentor DK Holland. It was from the wisdom of DK that she found direction in such a vast field of design. Having worked for several years in a mid-sized design studio, she wanted to try a larger company environment. She moved to CYB Yasumura, a commercial package design studio then under Y&R where she worked on huge projects for corporate giants.
Well, that was indeed different. Yearning for more creative freedom she left the big budgets and long hours to find the small design studio that would allow for more of the creative freedom she needed. Sometime in the early 90s she moved to Tom Dolle Design. Jana found her path in the design world! She worked on every sort of project from non-profit arts organizations to corporate marketing materials. It was there, through Tom Dolle’s guidance and friendship, that she learned how to juggle the many hats of a design studio. She learned the business of design, client relations, and a fundamental ethic that has stuck with her throughout her career. Be honest; listen to the needs of her clients, and design always with their interest in mind.
In 1999 she founded BAIRDesign, Incorporated and started developing identity and branding systems, promotional materials, web design, packaging, publication, and editorial design for a wide range of clients.
After over twenty years in business an opportunity to reimagine what design could be landed at her feet. Graphic design in the imaginary world of film and television. A walk through design history and possibility all designed to expand a world and make it believable to the audience. Perfect next chapter!
